Welcome to the 188th edition of Android Apps Weekly! Here are the headlines from the last week:

  • Google Chrome may soon have its own ad-blocker. According to the Wall Street Journal, Google wants to improve the user experience. Of course, it would also put huge pressure on third party ad-blockers. The idea is that Google will include ad-block, but it’ll only block the worst of the worst ads as defined by the Coalition for Better Ads. Google hasn’t confirmed that this is actually happening. At least not yet.
  • Pandora Premium is out now. The streaming service aims to compete with the likes of Spotify, Google Play Music, and Apple Music. Pandora matches features with most of those, including an on-demand library of songs, playlists, and users can create their own library. Those who want to try it out can for 60 days for free. After that, you’ll have to pay $9.99 per month. Those who paid for Pandora’s $4.99 Pandora Plus tier can demo the service for up to six months for free.
  • The latest Humble Bundle is live! This time around the focus is on adventure games. Some of the games includes Grim Fandango Remastered, Kath Rain, Machinarium, Her Story, Socery 4, and Burly Men At Sea. We’ve talked about all of those games in this feature before. You can pay $1 and get three games, $4 to get six games, or pay $6 for every game. Literally every one of these games are good and you’ll be donating to charity!
  • Google Play has revamped their My Apps and Games section. Before, it was one giant list of nonsense. Now there are separate tabs for updates, installed apps, your app library, and beta apps. It’s not much, but it’s still way better than the two tab system it had before. It should be rolling out to everybody right now. You can try force updating the app or just waiting for the update to hit you!
  • Apex Launcher received it’s last update two years ago. That’s about to change. The developer took to Medium this week to outline an update coming in the future. It’ll have better support for Android Nougat, new features, new looks, and a lot more. The dev has more features planned. However, they won’t show up until future updates. Those excited by the news only have to wait until May to get it.

Nonstop Chuck Norris

Nonstop Chuck Norris is a freemium fighting game. Your job is to control Chuck Norris as he mows down wave after wave of bad guys. The mechanics are simple, but they're also a little boring. Chuck Norris controls himself and you just pick the attacks he uses. It also includes boss fights, signature move sets, and even companions once you get far enough. It's not a great game by any stretch. However, it can be a decent time killer as long as you're not expecting too much.

Today Weather is a minimal weather app. It's been out for a bit, but it seems worth talking about. It'll show you the basic stuff like temperature, forecast, and hour-by-hour weather. It'll also show things like the air quality, severe weather alerts, and there is widget support. There is a radar, but you need to be a pro user in order to get it. The pro version has a $3.99 price tag. There are optional, cheaper subscription options for six months or one year. However, we recommend just forking out the one-time price if you plan on buying it.

After weeks of anticipation, Office Space: Idle Profits is out. It's a freemium game that revolves around the cast and settings of the movie. Actually, the plot is also a lot like the movie. You'll be performing a variety of activities, including meetings, beatings, and all kinds of other stuff. There are even office parties where you can win rare items. The only downside is that it's a freemium game and it plays like one. Otherwise, it should be a good source of nostalgia for fans of the movie.

Microsoft released a new to do list app. It's simply called To Do. On the surface, it has the features that a to do list should have. You can create tasks, add due dates and reminders, and even add notes. Each task can be repeated on a weekly, monthly, or custom basis. That's kind of nice. It takes a lot of its design cues and functionality from Wunderlist (also owned by Microsoft). However, it doesn't have any of the flashy features. You also need a Microsoft account in order to use it. We assume that there will be heavier integration with other Micorsoft products as time goes. It's okay, especially considering that it's free.

Guardians of the Galaxy TTG

Price: $4.99 / $14.99

Telltale Games has finally released their Guardians of the Galaxy game. In classic Telltale fashion, the game is an episodic adventure. You'll play the main cast as you hunt down and protect a relic of immense power. You'll face all kinds of bad guys and go all kinds of places to do so. The graphics and storytelling are decent. The game does have its fair share of bugs, but that's not surprising for an initial release. The first episode is $4.99 and you can pick up the other four episodes for $14.99. As usual, the other four episodes will be released over the course of this year.
